Ngā Mataapuna Oranga is a kaupapa Māori PHO (Primary Health Organisation) located in the Western Bay of Plenty. We offer support and direction to a network of Kaupapa Māori health and social service providers and have been operating collaboratively since 1990.
The NMO Network is made up of long standing and experienced deliverers of health and social services who operate autonomously to primarily high need, vulnerable whānau in their respective hapori. Collectively, we provide a comprehensive range of health, social, whānau ora and cultural services to approximately 30,000 whānau primarily in the Western Bay of Plenty, although some services do traverse the East. Our three general practices are based in Te Puna, Gate Pa and Papamoa. There is also a partner practice located in Te Puke.
Ngā Mataapuna Oranga is also a Whānau Ora Collective with kaiarahi who play a key role in supporting whānau experiencing many of the challenges post COVID and in general. From a distance it may appear that much of the support looks a lot like social work, but it is more than that. It is about walking alongside and supporting whānau towards their own mana motuhake (autonomous management of their own affairs).
Ngā Mataapuna Oranga and the NMO Network is committed to Tūāpapa – the local tangata whenua model that forms the basis of everything we do. Its core values of tika, pono and aroha reinforce and broaden the way we see and use these values to lead us to better practices.
